Sanchez Named Deputy Speaker

December 6, 2022

I was honored to have served as chair of the Education Committee the last 4 years. We have accomplished so much that has and will continue to benefit our children such as additional education funding and early childhood funding and an upcoming development of a K thru 8 model curriculum, just to name a few. I am also proud that we were able to pass bi-partisan legislation such as the Black and Puerto Rican and Latino, Asian and Pacific Islander History legislation. I'm grateful to have worked with such a great team of colleagues on the committee and look forward to working with the Speaker and the leadership team in the upcoming session.

Speaker Ritter said, “Bobby is a proven leader. His years of experience as a committee chair will serve him well in this leadership role. I can’t wait to see him on the House dais, gavel in hand."

When the Speaker of the House is absent from the chamber, the Deputy Speaker presides over the House of Representatives.

In his most recent leadership role as House Chair of the Education Committee, Rep. Sanchez led the charge to increase diversity in education, was able to double the grant for bilingual education and fought to increase access to mental health care in schools.
