East Hartford Delegation Applauds Bond Commission Approval of Critical Funds
The East Hartford State Legislative Delegation, which includes House Majority Leader Jason Rojas (D – East Hartford, Manchester), State Representatives Jeff Currey (D – East Hartford, Manchester, South Windsor) and Henry Genga (D – East Hartford) and State Senator Saud Anwar (D – South Windsor), announced the town will receive more than $3 million in state funds as the State Bond Commission approved allocations during today's meeting.
East Hartford was awarded $2.5 million to purchase and redevelop the Church Corners Inn to be converted into 30 housing units and 6,000 sf. of commercial space. Additional funding was awarded for the rehabilitation at East Modernization, repairs at Rentschler Field, and support for the East Hartford YMCA.
"The funding awarded by the State Bond Commission today will support East Hartford in making critically need improvements to support the future of our town," said Majority Leader Rojas. "Since the inception of the Community Investment Fund, I've been consistent in advocating for the needed redevelopment of Church Corners Inn. It's potential impact on the future of East Hartford's Main Street cannot be understated – this is a significant step towards connecting visitors to the heart of our community. And, with rehabilitation of East Modernization, repairs at Rentschler Field, and support the conversion of a childcare facility at the East Hartford YMCA, we are continuing to build out our town to meet future needs. Thank you to the Governor and the State Bond Commission for continuing to prioritize East Hartford."
“With the funds allocated during today’s Bond Commission meeting, East Hartford can continue to transform into a town ready for the future. As we continue to face a shortage of accessible and affordable childcare options, I welcome the study of adding childcare to the East Hartford YMCA. And, with the investment in the Church Corners Project, we can make the critically needed upgrade to revitalize our Downtown," said Rep. Currey. "I’d like to thank Governor Lamont and member of the State Bond Commission, I’m grateful for their continued commitment to investing in our community.”
"I'd like to thank Governor Lamont and the Bond Commission for allocating these vital funds to the town of East Hartford. This money will touch every part of the community, it will benefit our local economy, individuals looking for affordable housing, and those looking for childcare options. I am thrilled by this news and cannot wait to see the growth in our community," said Rep. Genga.
“I am so grateful to Governor Lamont and the State Bond Commission for this incredible infusion into our community to support such important causes,” said Sen. Anwar. “On top of ensuring Rentschler Field can continue to host events drawing folks from around the state, the purchase and redevelopment of Church Corners Inn will transform a troubled property with new and improved uses. On top of that, improving the conditions at the East Modernization site will benefit dozens of families, while studying the value of adding childcare to the East Hartford YMCA will undoubtedly help our region improve its childcare availability and options. I’m extremely encouraged by these allocations and the great projects they will aid.”
