Saying Goodbye To Q

January 6, 2023

We are still in shock after the tragic passing or Rep. Quentin "Q" Williams. He died in a wrong-way crash Thursday morning in Cromwell hours after he was sworn in for a third term in the House.

Rep. Williams was an incredible man with a passion for public service. Flags across Connecticut have been lowered in his honor. Tonight, people from every corner of the state will be coming together for a candlelight vigil to remember Rep. Williams' life.

I want to give my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Rep. Williams. I really regret not getting to know him better as a person and colleague. His smile was infectious. His colleagues respected and appreciated his work. On Wednesday night, around 11 p.m., I was joking with Rep. Williams with French words as he giggled. He enjoyed practicing French with me.

Today is a day of mourning. It is also important to recognize that this is a reminder to try to know and understand people better. Another important lesson that has emerged is that the later we drive home at night from the Capitol complex, the more dangerous it is. This tragedy is a reminder for those of us who have a long drive home that it is worth staying overnight in Hartford if our session days run late or very late.

Salut mon ami, reposes-toi en paix! R.I.P. Q
