Join Me this Weekend & Prepare for the Cold!

February 3, 2023
Before I share information with you about some upcoming events, I wanted to remind many of you to stay safe this weekend as we face sub-zero degree temperatures, which brings increased risks to ourselves and our communities.

Temperature related health problems, such as frostbite and hypothermia, can take effect quickly and it is important to understand the symptoms. Keeping warm indoors is critical; if you are struggling with heating costs, or need advice on energy assistance programs, a number of resources are available here.

The Department of Public Heath's cold weather safety guide, and other information relating to winter safety and dealing with cold temperatures can be found here.

In response to the freezing temperatures, the Governor has activated Connecticut's Severe Cold Weather protocol. The protocol went into effect at 12:00 PM yesterday, and stays in effect until 12:00 PM on Sunday, February 5. The cold weather protocol aims to ensure that people who may be exposed to the cold weather have access to shelter for this time. Warming centers and shelters will be open across our state. If you or someone you know needs shelter, please call 2-1-1 to be directed to a nearby location and transportation if necessary. Click here for more information.

PURA Conversation
On February 13 at 4PM at the Fairfield Museum and History Center, the Fairfield Delegation will host an informative discussion with the Chairwoman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), Marissa Gillett, and Chair of Sustainable Fairfield, Bob Wall, to discuss the recent utility bill spike.

Many of you have questions about how and why prices have spiked, and our panelists will discuss what is happening and what we can do to combat the rising costs.

All members of the public are invited, and I encourage you to join the conversation in person!
