New Potential For Growth at Georgetown Mill

February 8, 2023

It has been a busy month since I was sworn into office and officially started serving you in the 42nd district. I've met so many new faces while digging deep into policies and concepts on proposals that will support our community. While this is a brand new experience, I'm up to the challenge and looking forward to our critical work.
NEW POTENTIAL FOR GROWTH

I met Congressman Jim Himes last week to announce a $200,000 federal grant to redevelop the Georgetown Wire Mill in nearby Redding. The money will go to study sewer requirements for future development. The hope is for this area to grow and attract more people to work in Wilton.

We would like the Georgetown Wire Mill to be converted into a a regional hub for retail and housing. I want to thank Congressman Jim Himes and the rest of his team for helping secure the money needed to improve our communities.

MEETING TOP STATE OFFICIALS
As a new state legislator, I had the opportunity to meet some of the biggest names in Connecticut politics. Last week, both the Democratic and Republican parties introduced me to some of the most experienced elected officials in our state. I met U.S. Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal at a reception at Salute Restaurant in downtown Hartford.
Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff, House Speaker Matt Ritter, and House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora were also there to roll out the welcome matt. I look forward to working with all of them in the ongoing legislative session and beyond.
WILTON WINTER CARNIVAL
I had a great time meeting Olaf and everyone else who attended the annual Wilton Winter Carnival on February 5th. From horse drawn carriage rides to beautiful ice sculptures, this event had it all for the entire family.

New this year, the Wilton Chamber of Commerce partnered with "Wilton Go Green." The local organization sponsored a station to collect and divert food scraps to a composting facility.

The carnival highlights what makes our community such a special place. I want to thank everyone who was involved for making the Winter Carnival a huge success.

AMERICAN HEART MONTH

The month of February is dedicated to American Heart Month, a month long awareness campaign in support of over 120 million Americans currently living with a cardiovascular condition, and to educate ourselves on ways we can prevent and reduce the risk of heart disease.

In the United States, heart disease contributes to 1 in 5 deaths, the leading cause of death amongst men and women.

Raising awareness of the risk factors attributed to cardiovascular conditions is an important part of the fight against heart disease and can save lives. You can find out more about risk factors here.

Understanding CPR could mean saving a life. Follow Damar Hamlin's #3forHeart CPR Challenge to learn how to perform hands-only CPR and to support the American Heart Association.

Let us share this information to ensure that friends and family understand the contributing factors to heart disease, and the ways that we can reduce our risk of developing cardiovascular conditions.
