Two Local Oyster Farms Awarded State Grants

February 15, 2023

I am thrilled to see two local businesses get a major boost in the form of state funding from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture. The Farm Transition Grants were awarded to 30 projects across Connecticut to support agricultural producers.

Sixpenny Oyster Farm in Groton will receive $20,000 that will go toward supplies for additional floating bags and bottom cages. Harmony Sea Farm in Stonington was awarded $9,600 for an oyster seed sorter, work platform, oyster bags, clips, and floats.

I'm ecstatic that the state is recognizing Sixpenny Oyster Farm and Harmony Sea Farm for their hard work. Both companies offer amazing food and are integral parts of the community. This funding should help those companies progress in the right direction.

In total, $549,649 in Farm Transition Grants were awarded to a diverse pool of Connecticut agricultural producers and cooperatives seeking to expand, diversify, and improve their existing operation.
