Celebrating Women's History Month

March 9, 2023

It’s been an amazing week as we celebrate Women’s History Month around Connecticut. March is a time to celebrate women who have inspired change throughout history and to recognize those who continue to fight for the fair and equitable treatment of women and girls around the world.

I am thrilled to celebrate the many accomplishments of women in Connecticut and beyond in the coming weeks! We have so many dedicated female state representatives who are serving as role models for generations to come!

The State of Connecticut has a long history of women's movements, click here to find out more.

On Wednesday night, I was honored to have been a part of Alice Paul’s Legacy in Action Awards and Reception at the Historic Keeler Tavern. We recognized several women from Ridgefield whose actions and advocacy will bring positive change.

I want to thank Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz for attending and the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee for hosting this wonderful event.

The very next morning I was happy to promote female empowerment through the Ms President US leadership program. It’s a non-profit that started in Ridgefield and is dedicated to motivating and preparing girls to become involved in public service. They learn about public speaking, diplomacy, and women’s history while having an opportunity to meet exemplary female leaders.

Several young women received citations for their hard work including Anaya Uttamchandani of Wilton and Valentina McManus of Ridgefield. Congratulations to all of our young female leaders!
