Women's History Month
March 10, 2023March is Women's History Month, a time to recognize and honor women's contributions throughout history. On Wednesday, we celebrated International Women's Day, which is an opportunity for us to recognize women's achievements, raise awareness about discrimination, and think about what we can do to drive gender parity. I'm excited to continue to recognize the many accomplishments of women in our state and beyond throughout the coming weeks!

In honor of Women's History Month, I want to highlight Danbury's own Marian Anderson, who was the first African-American singer to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in 1955. Her contributions to both music and civil rights will never be forgotten.
I had the opportunity to be a reader for the "In Her Words" event at the Danbury Museum and Historical Society, which took place in Marian Anderson's studio. I was honored to read from her autobiography to celebrate the truly remarkable legacy she left behind.
The best way we can honor Marian Anderson and trailblazing women like her is to continue to make our state a safe, fair, and equitable place for all women and girls. I hope you can join me in acknowledging the achievements of those who continue to inspire us and pave the way for the next generation.
