Increasing the Subminimum Wage for Tipped Workers

THE FIGHT TO INCREASE MINIMUM WAGE FOR HOURLY WAGED WORKERS
Last week, I joined my colleague's state Reps. Kara Rochelle, Corey Paris, Jillian Gilchrest, and Sen. Julie Kushner at the Blue Plate Kitchen in West Hartford to support increasing the pay for hourly waged tipped workers.

We rolled up our sleeves, put on our aprons, and waited on tables to bring awareness to the great work servers do every day and saw firsthand why they deserve increased pay.

Senate Bill 1177 would eliminate the subminimum wage in the state and increase the minimum wage for tipped workers across the state.

The current subminimum wage in Connecticut for tipped workers is $6.38, and with the passage of this legislation would allow them to bring home the soon-to-be $15-an-hour wage, with tips on top.
