Dear Neighbor,

Last week, I was joined by my colleagues - Representatives Conley and Bumgardner - to share our legislative update with the community. It was great to share the work we are doing to serve Southeastern Connecticut and hear from you!

Thanks to all who came out and participated! If you weren't able to make it, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns - I'm happy to help!

Testifying Before the Banking Committee

Last week, I had the opportunity to testify on a bill that I co-introduced with colleagues State Senator James Marony and State Representatives Travis Simms, Treneé McGee and Hubert Delany. My testimony was in regards to support for SB 658, an act concerning first-time homebuyer mortgage loans for properties in certain locations, specifically for distressed communities.

UConn Students Rally at the Capitol
Last week we heard from administrators, faculty, supporters and hundreds of UConn students in regards to the funding for the university. I was happy to hear, meet and see so many students as we jumped from meeting to meeting.

Thank you all for coming out to share, show and shout out your concern to keep the funding strong as it has been. We will try our best to support UConn to be what it has always been. #1! Keep up the fight!

Happy Birthday Toni Walker!
Myself and members of the Appropriations team had the opportunity to celebrate our Queen of Appropriations! Please help me wish State Representative Toni Walker a Happy, Happy Birthday.

We love you Rep. Walker, thank you for all you do!

Black History Live Performance of "A Woman With A Railroad"
I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a great Black History live performance of Harriet Tubman performing "A Woman With A Railroad" at MT Olive SDA Church. Adwoa Bandele - Asante did an amazing job! Thank you to Pastor Yohance Perry, Pastor Gil Anderson, City Councilor Akil Peck and MT Olive Church family for the great time.

Waterford RISE Event to Recognize Ann Petry
I had the pleasure of attending the Waterford RISE event to recognize Ann Petry. I was honored to give two Citations; a citation from the Connecticut General Assembly and a second citation from the Office of Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz that recognized Ann Lane Petry.
Ann Petry was born and raised in Seabrook, Connecticut. The daughter of a pharmacist, she majored in pharmacology at the University of Connecticut. Petry was a Black writer of adult novels and children's literature who chronicled the urban Black female experience. Her first novel, "The Street" (1946), was a resounding success, eventually selling more than two million copies, the first book by a Black woman to do so.

Thank you to panelists Lonnie Braxton, Professor Jose Gonzalez and Professor Kate Rushin for leading such an amazing discussion. Big thanks to Waterford RISE and host Stephanie Browder for doing such an amazing job!

Attending the 2nd Annual Black History Month Celebration
I had the great opportunity to join the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce Tourist Information & Welcome Center, Mystic and Noank Library, and Booker Empowerment, LLC in Downtown Mystic CT for the 2nd Annual Black History Month Celebration.

We gathered at the flagpole where ISAAC School Students Amira Ahmed, Orianha Chavez, Mackenzie Dwyer, Mika Rosos and Jayda Schneider led us in a walk to Union Baptist Church to hear speakers, performers, poets, artists, musicians and have great food. Thanks to all who made this event happen!
