Legislative Update and Upcoming Events

March 14, 2023

The Legislative Session is in full swing and I'm excited to share with you some of the things I've been up to in Hartford. March has been full of public hearings, committee meetings, and votes on bills. Here you'll find an update on some of the legislation I've been working on, as well as some upcoming events happening around Danbury.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Recently, my colleagues and I voted to pass Raised S.B. No. 1103: An Act Concerning Artificial Intelligence, Automated Decision-Making, and Personal Data Privacy out of the General Law Committee. This legislation continues the Committee's data privacy efforts from last year, which empowered users to take control of their personal data and expands data privacy protections for state agencies. Connecticut continues to lead the nation in data privacy efforts, and I look forward to expanding these protections.

So what does it mean now that this bill has been voted out of committee? Since this has happened, now S.B. No. 1103 can be called to the Senate floor to make its way through the legislative process.

Meanwhile, on the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, we are working on a number of different concepts, such as mental health for veterans, which is crucial since they often face unique challenges related to their service. This can make it difficult for them to readjust to civilian life and can have a significant impact on their overall well-being.

We are also looking at expanding more impactful tax assistance-- including property and income tax relief. By doing this, we have the opportunity to ease their financial burden and provide some much-needed support.
