State Representative Robyn Porter Panel Discussion: International Justice Exchange- Learning from Norway

March 21, 2023
I hope you are well and enjoying the onset of Spring.

I am sending you this email to share with you information on two upcoming events, and do apologize in advance for the late notice.

Tomorrow at the Capitol and the LOB, two important events will be held to highlight the barriers justice-impacted people face daily, post-incarceration.

The first is the “Take A Walk in My Shoes Reentry Simulation,” hosted by the UConn Dodd Human Rights Impact. The simulation will demonstrate the challenges faced with reentry and why it is important to provide readily accessible resources to returning citizens. There will be multiple sessions for the simulation, with the first one beginning at 10 a.m.

If you would like to attend, please

register for this event ahead of time.
After the simulation at the Capitol, I will host a panel discussion with Andrew Clark, Director of the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy, “INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE EXCHANGE: FROM CONNECTICUT TO NORWAY AND BACK.”

The discussion will focus on the International Justice Exchange project and what we learned during our fact-finding trip to Norway a few months ago. We will discuss how Norway reimagined their penal system and redesigned one with one of the lowest recidivism rates globally, at 20%, compared with 76.6% of incarcerated people recidivating within five years in the United States.

The discussion will be held at the Legislative Office Building (LOB) in room 2E from 2 pm - 4 pm where and when we will hear from a distinguished panel consisting of our esteemed guest Per Sigurd Vage visiting from Norway, justice-impacted people, lawmakers, advocates and retirees from DOC and Probation.

I hope to see you there!
