Celebrating our Relationship with Taiwan

June 1, 2023

My colleagues and I welcomed several top-ranking officials from Taiwan to celebrate our fruitful sister-state relationship dating back to 1999. On Tuesday, the Connecticut General Assembly recognized the state’s long history of diplomacy and friendship with Taiwan. We also established a Taiwan Friendship Caucus.

Connecticut exported $235 million worth of products to Taiwan in 2021, making Taiwan one of the most important foreign markets for Connecticut. We continue to strengthen a robust trade relationship, and I look forward to fostering an even tighter bond with my friends in Taiwan.

Taiwan and the United States share the same principles and values that provide a strong foundation for continued diplomatic relations. Our state supports a closer economic and trade partnership between the U.S. and Taiwan.
