Federal Judge Upholds CT Gun Law

October 9, 2015

This morning U.S. Circuit Judge José A. Cabranes upheld Connecticut's gun law, ruling that the state had established a compelling state interest in controlling crime.

Judge Cabranes ruling is a win for public safety, and reflects the care and balance in the legislation.

“New York and Connecticut have adequately established a substantial relationship between the prohibition of both semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity magazines and the important – indeed compelling – state interest in controlling crime,” Judge Cabranes wrote in the decision published Monday, ruling that the post-Newtown gun laws enacted in both states do not violate the Second Amendment right to individual gun ownership.
