Important Offshore Wind Updates for Connecticut

October 11, 2023

I'm proud to share that our state is a leader in combatting climate change. Last week, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island announced the first-of-its-kind effort in the United States to coordinate their offshore wind efforts. This collaboration not only opens up the potential for procuring clean energy at more competitive and affordable rates but also amplifies the numerous benefits of offshore wind.

By harnessing the power of offshore wind together, we can unlock regional economic development opportunities, foster healthier communities, lower energy bills, and ensure environmental justice for all residents. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to building a sustainable future that leaves no one behind.

In addition to this multistate regional collaboration, we have further solidified our dedication to offshore wind by announcing our first-ever strategic roadmap for economic development in the offshore wind industry. This roadmap is supported by the newly formed Connecticut Wind Collaborative (CWC), a public-private nonprofit group comprised of experts and stakeholders in the field.

Offshore Wind Updates

Connecticut's deepwater ports, direct water access, and long history of advanced manufacturing make it a natural hub for offshore wind development. By capitalizing on these strengths, we can drive sustainable economic growth while protecting our environment for future generations.

Offshore wind plays a vital role in Connecticut's journey toward clean, affordable, and reliable energy. With a statutory target of achieving 100% zero-carbon electricity by 2040, which was passed during the 2022 legislative session, our state is actively working toward this goal.

One of my top priorities is to adopt policies that address climate change. Initiatives like these demonstrate my commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable actions that protect our environment.
