Ban The Box On Job Applications

Rep. Robyn Porter joined her colleagues and advocates today at a press conference to champion House Bill 5237: An Act Concerning Fair Chance Employment.

The legislation incorporates the “ban the box” practices in hiring and postpones the background check until a conditional offer for employment is made.

The legislation, among other things, requires employers to take into account the age of the offense when making hiring decisions. The legislation, unlike laws in other states, includes private employers and therefore facilitates the initiation of a discrimination complaint.
