Serra Helps Olders Adults

May 8, 2015

Representative Joe Serra joined Senator Mae Flexer in leading a forum focusing on Connecticut's growing population of older adults and the increasing need to address the issues facing them.

"It's important for the legislature to recognize that the state's population is growing in age," Representative Serra said. "As the number of older residents increases, the legislature must devote more attention to their needs and the many issues that affect them."

"One-third of Connecticut's population is already over age 50, and by 2025 people over age 65 will populate 20 percent of every town in this state. The average life expectancy of a person born today in Connecticut is 81 years old, the third-highest life expectancy in America," Sen. Flexer said.
