State Funding for Mystic Seaport & Affordable Housing

January 27, 2016

I am excited to announce that the State Bond Commission is expected to approve a $2 million state grant for Mystic Seaport at its meeting on January 29. This grant will allow for the construction of the new 14,000 square-foot Thompson Exhibition Building.

This is very exciting news for our region as this state-of-the-art indoor space will allow Mystic Seaport to increase its year-round presence. The new exhibits housed in the Thompson Exhibition Building will give a boost to tourism in Southeastern Connecticut by encouraging more visitors to come check out all that Mystic Seaport has to offer.

I was happy to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building in January 2015 and looks forward to seeing the finished building in the fall of 2016.

The State Bond Commission is also expected to approve a $3,523,526 loan to Spruce Ridge Limited Partnership to aid in the construction of 43 new affordable housing units in the Pawcatuck section of Stonington.

We desperately need more affordable housing in Stonington. Thank you Governor Malloy for this generous state loan. Increasing affordable housing in Stonington will encourage more young people to stay in the area and contribute to our culture and economy.
