On November 20, I joined Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, fellow State Representatives Toni Walker, Eleni Kavros DeGraw, Derrell Wilson, and Tom O'Dea; CSCU Chancellor Terrance Cheng, Southern CT State University Interim President Dr. Dwayne Smith, the Board of Regents, advocates, professors, and students, for a press conference and roundtable, rolling out a new state pilot program on student debt reimbursement. The reimbursement program, set to start on January 1, 2025, provides up to $5,000/year for up to four years (for a total of up to $20,000) in loan forgiveness. This will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, and as this is a pilot program, $6 million has been allocated in the current budget cycle.
