Dear Neighbor,

It was an honor to advocate for proper state funding of our schools alongside Mackenzie Stewart, a Plantsville resident and 11th grade student at the CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering. Mackenzie had written to me and eloquently shared how the educational environment at her magnet school has provided her with unparalleled opportunities for growth and achievement. Last week, we attended a press conference hosted by a bipartisan group of legislators and education advocates committed to building a brighter future for all students. I was proud to stand with Mackenzie in support of Connecticut schools, especially the great schools in Southington.

Legislative Q&A

My next Legislative Session Q&A will be held on this Sunday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Lions Den Coffee Shop in Plantsville. Representatives Mike DiGiovancarlo and Jill Barry, both members of the Moderate Caucus, will be joining me.

The Moderate Caucus (“Connecticut Blue Dogs”) is a coalition of 24 Connecticut House Democrats who advocate within the House Democratic Caucus for fiscal responsibility, transparency, and good governance while making common-sense policy for all Connecticut residents. Blue Dogs work toward bipartisan consensus, rather than conflict with Republicans.

We look forward to speaking with you about key issues in Hartford.

Krar & Associates Visit

I recently visited Joseph Krar & Associates, Inc., an excess and surplus lines insurance broker in Southington. Representative Barry, who serves as Vice Chair of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, joined me and we met with Joe, Carolyn, and Jeff Krar to learn about their business. We talked about recent legislation impacting their operations and how we might collaborate to streamline their reporting requirements. Great visit to a great family business.

Home Heating Assistance

Last week, the House unanimously approved $17 million in additional cold weather heating assistance funds so many residents and families, who receive assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) or Operation Fuel, will have access to funds to ensure they can heat their homes through the cold weather season.

As your legislator, it is my responsibility to stand up for my constituents. This funding ensures that none of our neighbors must choose between paying their bills or freezing.

I am committed to enhancing the safety and quality of life for all residents, and I will continue to do so throughout this legislative session.

History Pints

It's not too late to attend a fascinating storytelling event that delves into genealogy as History Pints is tonight at 7 p.m. at Kinsmen Brewing.

Admission to this event is FREE, but a $10 donation is kindly suggested at the door. Your generosity directly contributes to The Barnes Museum's exterior renovation efforts this year – preserving Southington's heritage!
