$1 Million Approved for Blackstone Library Renovation

April 13, 2018

With Karen Jensen, Director of the Blackstone Library, and Board Chair Andy McKirdy following the Bond Commission meeting

The state Bond Commission has approved $1 million in bonding for renovations at Blackstone Memorial Library in Branford. I'm a longtime supporter of Blackstone Library and have advocated for the Malloy administration to release these state bond funds.

The Blackstone Library is a center for community life, and this construction bond will help fund an addition to provide much-needed spaces especially designed for teenagers and children. The new wing will host ongoing education programs and also make our library much more accessible to people with disabilities. I am grateful to the governor and the Bond Commission for their support.

The library expansion and renovation costs are expected to cost approximately $5 million, of which the state aid will cover about 20 percent of the cost. For more information, see this article from the New Haven Independent.
