I joined with my colleagues in the General Assembly in passing a compromise state budget last week that successfully closes an $8.5 billion budget deficit for the next two fiscal years. ELECTION FUND DODGES BULLET IN LEGISLATURE
As a freshman legislator who was able to run a clean campaign without special interest money, I applaud The Hour for recognizing the value of public financing of state elections and primaries. This hallmark legislation was an unqualified success with a first year participation rate of a remarkable 75%. The program led to an increase in the number of contested primaries and elections in 2008. It was hailed as a model for the rest of the country and will serve as a benchmark for proposed federal legislation, the Fair Elections Now Act. READ MORE
