January 6, 2017

Representative Emmett D. Riley was promoted Friday by Speaker Joe Aresimowicz to deputy majority leader of the House Democratic Caucus.

Rep. Riley, who has been assistant majority leader for the last years, will serve under Majority Leader Matthew D. Ritter (D-Hartford). Riley was also appointed to the legislature’s Judiciary, Public Health and Insurance and Real Estate committees, and the Joint Committee on Legislative Management.

“I am humbled and honored to be asked to take on these additional leadership responsibilities as we face challenging times over the next two years,” he said. “I look forward to helping Speaker Aresimowicz and Majority Leader Ritter in leading our state as we meet these challenges and move Connecticut forward.”

“Representative Riley has served the people of Norwich admirably over the years and will be a great leader for our caucus. Emmett has the knowledge and experience to help move policies forward that will help us grow the economy and improve the quality of life for everyone in Connecticut,” Aresimowicz said.

“I’m proud to have Emmett on my team. He understands the needs of the people of Norwich and will play a critical role in improving the quality of their lives and those of all citizens of Connecticut,” Ritter said. “As a leader in our caucus, he has the experience we need to get things done.”
