Elderly-Disabled Housing Public Hearing

February 8, 2017

On Tuesday, February 7, 2014 the Housing Committee held a public hearing and the following bills were on the agenda: SB-742 An Act Concerning Certain Housing Developments And Discrimination On The Basis Of Age.

HB-5463 An Act Authorizing Separate Living Areas In Municipal Public Housing For Elderly Persons And Younger Persons With Disabilities and we heard passionate testimony in support and in opposition on this issue.

There are people who feel the elderly and disabled should not live in the same complex due to safety concerns.  Then, there are others who feel they can coexist and to pass legislation banning groups of people from living in the same complex, based on their age, is discrimination.  We heard passionate testimony from both sides. Please check the news clip from News 8 with more details about this issue: http://wtnh.com/2017/02/07/committee-hears-debate-over-elderly-disabled-housing-concerns/.
