REP. URBAN WELCOMES COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GRANT
Rep. Urban is pleased to announce that Stonington will receive an $800,000 Community Development Block Grant as part of the state’s Small Cities Program awards. The funding will allow the Stonington Housing Authority to renovate the Edythe K. Richmond Senor Housing Complex, which has 60 unites of elderly housing. READ MORE

REP. URBAN APPLAUDS SWIFT APPOINTMENT OF FAMILY VIOLENCE TASK FORCE CO-CHAIRS
Rep. Urban was glad to be on-hand when Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey and Senate President Martin Looney announced their selections to the Task Force to Study the State-Wide Response to Family Violence. Rep. Urban is confident that both Karen Jarmoc and Garry Lapidus have the experience and passion necessary to lead the task force and help protect Connecticut’s children from family violence. REP. URBAN APPLAUDS EXPANSION OF PESTICIDE BAN
The Children’s Committee raised a bill this year which would have banned pesticide use on municipal playgrounds. Rep. Urban is pleased that the General Assembly voted in support of this ban as part of the legislature’s budget adjustments. “The Children’s Committee worked hard this session to broaden Connecticut’s ban on harmful pesticides in order to better protect our children from exposure to these chemicals,” said Rep. REP. URBAN HOSTS GIZMO THE THERAPY DOG IN THE HOUSE CHAMBER
Rep. Urban introduced Gizmo the therapy dog to her colleagues in the House Chamber. He was a tremendous comfort to some of the sleep-deprived legislators who were feeling a little stressed on the penultimate day of the 2015 legislative session. In addition to donating his time as a therapy dog in the House Chamber, Gizmo and his team were also at the State Capitol in support of HB 6725, An Act Concerning Animal-Assisted Therapy Services, which passed both legislative bodies and heads to Governor Malloy’s desk. REP. URBAN SPEARHEADS UNANIMOUS HOUSE PASSAGE OF SECLUSION AND RESTRAINT BILL
Rep. Urban is pleased to report that Senate Bill 927, An Act Concerning Seclusion and Restraint in Schools, is headed to Governor Malloy’s desk after passage in both legislative chambers. The bill, which received unanimous support from the House, seeks to reduce the use of physical restraint or seclusion in schools and to train teachers on the use of restraint, seclusion, and other de-escalation techniques. REP. URBAN APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF ANIMAL THERAPY BILL
Rep. Urban is happy to announce that HB 6725, an Act Concerning Animal-Assisted Therapy Services, has passed the state House of Representatives with overwhelming support from both sides of the aisle. The bill would develop and implement training for certain Department of Children and Families employees about the value of animal-assisted activities and therapies and would develop a protocol to identify and mobilize animal-assisted critical incident response teams. REP. URBAN TALKS CONCUSSIONS ON FOX CT'S "THE REAL STORY"
Rep. Urban and former starting quarterback for the UConn football team, Casey Cochran, talked about commonsense concussion legislation on Fox CT's Sunday morning program. Rep. Urban sponsored a bill which aims to reduce the number of concussions in youth sports in Connecticut by requiring coaches to make information regarding concussions available to every child participant and his or her parent or guardian.
