Appointed Nominations Committee Chairman

State Representative Edwin Vargas (D-Hartford), who recently took the oath of office in the 6th Assembly District, has been appointed Chairman of the General Assembly’s Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee by Speaker of the House Joseph Aresimowicz (D-Berlin/Southington).

Rep. Vargas was also named to the legislature’s Environment and Labor and Public Employees Committees.

“I want to thank Speaker Aresimowicz for the honor of being appointed Chairman of the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee,” Rep. Vargas said. “I appreciate the opportunity to serve on the Environment and Labor and Public Employees Committees. These committees are important to the operations of state government and to the lives of our citizens.”

“I’m confident Rep. Vargas will be an important asset as he undertakes his new responsibilities in the legislature” Speaker Aresimowicz said. “His committees will be well served by the experience and energy he contributes.”

The Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee has oversight over all nominations requiring action of either or both chambers of the General Assembly except judicial nominations, nominations of workers' compensation commissioners and nominations of members of the Board of Pardons and Paroles.

The Environment Committee has oversight over matters relating to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The Labor and Public Employees Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to workers' compensation, unemployment compensation, conditions of employment, hours of labor, minimum wages, industrial safety, occupational health and safety, labor unions and labor disputes, all matters relating to the Department of Labor; and all matters relating to conditions of employment of state and municipal employees and the substantive law of state and municipal employees' collective bargaining.
