Walker, Workers Praise Contract Approval
I am writing to you regarding the legislature's passage of a resolution proposing the approval of a memorandum of agreement between the PCA workforce council and the New England Health Care Employees Union, District 1199, SEIU.
In a 127-16 vote, with eight abstentions, the contract amendment was passed by the House of Representatives last Wednesday.
The passage of this contract amendment will raise wages, provide workers’ compensation and increase funding for training and orientation programs for approximately 1,300 personal care attendants.
These workers care for elderly and disabled Connecticut residents in their homes by assisting them with grocery shopping, cooking, providing transportation and self-care.
I am proud to support this amendment and look forward to it's implementation in the near future.
