Addressing Crumbling FoundationsFebruary 15, 2019
After many homeowners desperate to address their deteriorating home foundations brought their concerns to the legislature, a measure was passed to bring them some relief.
A bill which I co-introduced, House Bill 6750, is making its way through the legislature. It would allow condominium buildings with more than four living units to access the funds set aside by the State to replace crumbling foundations. Condominium buildings with four or fewer units are already eligible for funds.
The state of Connecticut took action to help homeowners affected by crumbling concrete foundations by creating a $100 million dollar fund to help with the repair or replacement of failing foundations.
The Crumbling Foundations Assistance Fund has begun the process of reimbursing homeowners. The following resources provide more information and how to apply for reimbursement:
- Connecticut Crumbling Foundations Solutions Indemnity Company is the website for the captive insurance entity where home owners go to apply for relief.
- Capitol Region Council of Governments / Crumbling Foundations Testing is the website to help homeowners understand the testing procedures or call (860) 724 4277
- More information about crumbling foundations may be found at the Connecticut Coalition Against Crumbling Basements web site and the Department of Consumer Protection.
