Closing the Wage Gap
I joined my colleagues in the legislature at a press conference on closing the gender wage gap.
Wage discrimination is unfair and unjust. The State of Connecticut did a pay equity study, called the Objective Job Evaluation, in the 1980s. We evaluated every job in state service on knowledge required, degree of decision making authority, accountability, etc. and rationalized the pay structure. Predominately female job classes which had been traditionally underpaid were upgraded. We can have pay equity, and the work women and men do does not have to be identical to achieve it.
