E-Insurance CardJune 3, 2017
Finally, Connecticut may become the forty-ninth state to allow drivers to show their proof of insurance on their cell phones. The House approved HB 5135, An Act Concerning Electronic Proof of Automobile Insurance Identification Cards, in a 137-13 vote.
The legislation allows motorists the ability to use an electronic copy of their auto insurance during a traffic stop or in any other situation to prove that they have auto insurance. It is completely voluntary. You would be allowed to use the paper insurance card or an electronic version on the phone.
Forty-eight other states have passed a similar law and Connecticut is finally joining the information age.
