Progressive Caucus 2019 Legislative Agenda

December 10, 2018

Last week, we in the Progressive Caucus announced our 2019 legislative agenda which will tackle the issues of increasing the minimum wage, establishing paid family and medical leave, and regulating the use of marijuana. These issues, if passed during the upcoming legislative session, hold so many promising developments for Connecticut’s future.

(1) Increasing the Minimum Wage to $15

With the introduction of a $15 minimum wage, phased in over the next 4.5 years, we can positively impact the lives of the poorest workers in our state, who often work in the restaurant and fast-food sectors.

(2) Legalizing and Regulating Adult Marijuana Use

By legalizing and regulating adult use of marijuana, Connecticut will be able to create jobs in an entirely new industry, not only eliminating the black market but also boosting economic activity in our state.

(3) Paid Family and Medical Leave

Paid family and medical leave makes our state attractive to employees of all ages. Through a small payroll tax, we empower workers to meet their health and family needs without jeopardizing their financial situation. There will be no financial burden on employers.

I am completely in support of, and will be a co-introducer of bills for the three progressive initiatives.
