As we welcome a new year, several laws that we passed in the last legislative session took effect on January 1, 2026.

The governor has begun crafting a $170 million plan to help lower health insurance costs, expand access to food assistance, and prevent some of our most vulnerable neighbors from losing their housing.

The state is helping those in need by erasing some or all medical debt for approximately 40,000 Connecticut residents.

We are putting an emergency response fund to good use by committing $70 million to offset the cuts to Affordable Care Act subsidies when they are set expire at the end of the year. This will protect thousands from anticipated, steep premium increases in 2026.

In a special legislative session last week, we delivered meaningful progress for every person seeking justice, safety, and dignity in our courthouses, especially in Stamford.

I was proud to join my colleagues in the legislature last week for a special session to debate and pass several important bills – including one on housing affordability and another helping offset federal budget cuts.
