As the State of Connecticut continues taking actions in response to the global spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Governor Ned Lamont provided updates as of 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

I join with my colleagues in the call for additional ballot drop boxes and funding for the Bridgeport Town Clerk's Office that processes the ballots and will be handling a much larger volume of documents in November than in past elections. The goal is to offer Bridgeport's residents curbside voting to make it safer and easier for people who are disabled or at risk of serious illness from COVID-19.

The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles today announced that it has added to its list of extended deadlines for residents with expiring credentials. Eligible DMV credentials that expire between August 1, 2020 and September 30, 2020 are automatically covered by this extension.

My colleagues and I passed legislation that will increase transparency and accountability in our state's police departments. While there was broad agreement among my colleagues, the issue of "qualified immunity" which insulates police officers and municipalities from civil lawsuits in cases of police shootings, misconduct, and abuse of power, led to hours of debate. I stood on the floor of the House and urged my colleagues to defeat an amendment seeking to preserve qualified immunity.
