One of my top priorities going into the legislative session this year was to help lower the cost of housing for homeowners and renters.

The session is picking up, as we are staying later most days and passing more bills each day. You’ll see a lot of that work mentioned below. Also, it may not be substantive legislative work, but the House Democrats snapped a three-year losing streak to beat the Republicans in the annual CGA Kickball Classic. Most important, proceeds from the event went to CT Foodshare.

Last week, the House voted in favor of HB 5004: An Act Concerning the Protection of the Environment and the Development of Renewable Energy Sources and Associated Job Sectors.

There's a lot to talk about this week on the local, state and federal levels. Unfortunately, at the top of the list are more nonsensical, cruel and damaging cuts continuing to cascade from the federal government.

On Monday, Feb. 24, and again on Wednesday, March 5, I was proud to vote for bills allocating and ensuring an additional $40 million in funding to special education, giving immediate support to more than 140 school districts in our state and helping to provide the highest quality education for our students.

It has been a productive first month serving in the General Assembly! From swearing in to our first regular day of session and voting in committee to advance important legislation, our work has begun in earnest!

Democratic State Representative Nick Gauthier was sworn in on Wednesday for his first term and will represent the 38th district, covering Waterford and Montville.
