I joined my colleagues to welcome David Vieira of VFW Post 149 in Danbury to the House of Representatives. David has led the effort to erect a memorial monument to those who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq, the first in Connecticut.

After months of negotiations, the House of Representatives delivered a state budget that includes the largest income tax cut in the state’s history and significant increases in funding for Danbury's public schools, also known as Education Cost Sharing (ECS) funds.

Connecticut’s minimum wage is set to increase from the current $14 per hour to $15 per hour starting this Thursday, June 1. In 2019, my colleagues and I passed legislation that would gradually raise the minimum wage over five years. Providing livable wages to the lowest earning workers is a step in the right direction to help them make ends meet and provide for their families. 

As you know, I have been a champion for common sense gun responsibility laws for decades. Last week there came the reports of an active shooter in my neighborhood. I'd like to give a big shout out to the first responders not only from Danbury’s Police Department, but also those from our neighboring towns. They apprehended the shooter, and he was put in custody.

The House of Representatives passed HJ 1 on Wednesday, which means you will get to decide if we amend the state constitution to allow no-excuse absentee voting.

Last year, Connecticut voters overwhelmingly told the General Assembly that you wanted more voting opportunities through a constitutional amendment on early voting.  I and my colleagues in the House have answered your call.

Earlier in April, Tom Saadi was reappointed as the Commissioner of Veteran Affairs. Commissioner Saadi is an old friend and it was an honor to offer my support for his reappointment on the House floor.
