The month of February is dedicated to American Heart Month, a month long awareness campaign in support of over 120 million Americans currently living with a cardiovascular condition, and to educate ourselves on ways we can prevent and reduce the risk of heart disease. 

Extreme cold weather is expected in the coming days across the state. It is important to be mindful that with it brings increased risks to ourselves and our communities.

The Women’s Business Development Council (WBDC) announced the next round of the Equity Match Grant Program, which opened January 17, 2023. The deadline to apply is February 28, 2023. The application will also be offered in Spanish.

As the natural gas supply shortage continues to affect the globe and the country, Connecticut's two electric distribution companies, Eversource and United Illuminating (UI), announced that they are doubling their rates effective January 1, 2023. This unwelcome news comes as both Eversource and UI collect record profits, passing the cost burden onto us.

I am pleased to report that responsible budgeting and major structural changes made to pension and teachers' retirements plans are putting Connecticut on much more solid fiscal ground and saving taxpayers billions in debt payments.

Access Health CT (AHCT) announced it will host nine enrollment fairs in December to help Connecticut residents shop, compare and enroll or renew their health coverage during the current Open Enrollment period. Enrollment fairs will take place throughout the state, including Danbury.
