I first want to express my deepest sympathies to everyone affected by the tragic death of Jacqueline Torres Garcia, the girl whose remains were discovered behind an abandoned home in New Britain.

The growing issue of homelessness in Connecticut is extremely important to me and my legislative colleagues.

I would have preferred a deal that avoided a federal government shutdown. But the issue at stake is far too important to ignore. Without action from President Trump and Republicans in Congress, thousands of Connecticut residents — and millions across the country — will see their health insurance premiums rise dramatically.

Join me today in pausing to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action.

The legislative session concluded with progress on lowering energy bills and childcare costs, investing in education and public safety, and delivering millions of dollars in aid to Newington and New Britain.
