Last week, I had the chance to visit the after-school program at Kind Works, a program I was proud to help fund through the state budget. We talk a lot about “investing in our communities,” but today I got to see what that actually looks like. Kids from both Bethel and Danbury come here after school to learn, create, build friendships, and simply have a safe place to be. It’s a space filled with energy, kindness, and opportunity, exactly what every young person deserves. What I didn’t expect were the handwritten cards. They thanked me for supporting the program. Some wrote about the friends they’ve made. Others shared how happy they are to have a place like this to go after school. I’ll be honest, those notes meant a lot. Because behind every budget line item is something real. It’s a kid who feels safe. A parent who has peace of mind. A community that’s stronger because we chose to invest in it. I was proud to help secure $150,000 in funding to support youth programs like this, but moments like today are a reminder that the impact goes far beyond the numbers. This is why I do this work. Grateful to Kind Works for everything they’re doing, and to the incredible kids who made my day. |
