| Dear Neighbor,
I share the outrage of my constituents over the sharp rise in energy bills this summer. Along with my colleagues in the moderate caucus, I have submitted a motion to PURA requesting reconsideration of the rate adjustment mechanisms for Connecticut Light and Power and United Illuminating. The utilities’ communication leading up to these hikes drastically underestimated the real impact, and residents are now facing what can only be described as "rate shock."
PURA has the power to reverse or modify its decisions in light of changing conditions, and these unprecedented energy bills demand immediate action. I urge PURA to reopen the proceedings, delay certain initiatives, and explore options like amortization to ease the financial strain on families and businesses in our communities. Our residents deserve fairness and transparency, not unexpected burdens.
