We have made significant strides in supporting higher education and ensuring a brighter future with opportunities, support, and financial relief for our students.
During the 2023 legislative session, we allocated over $135 million more for higher education in our biennial state budget than initially proposed.

Please save the date - Saturday, August 26 - 9am to Noon - for our Hygiene Product Drive, a collaboration between our Norwalk and New Canaan legislative delegations, Filling in the Blanks and Kara Bonitatibus to help individuals within our communities with essential products for their regular personal care.

It’s that time again when we begin back-to-school preparations and I want to share news and events that will ease that transition for the upcoming school year.

My Norwalk democratic legislative delegation joined once again with Open Doors in support of their Back to School Backpack Drive. This amazing event was a great success last year, and we are thrilled to have done it again this year. I commend Open Doors for their commitment to supporting families who need a little extra help to get their children ready for a successful school year. And we are happy to support them by helping engage our generous community in this initiative.

I joined my Norwalk colleagues and Mayor Rilling at a press conference to highlight over $140 million in state funding we secured for the City of Norwalk, Norwalk Board of Education, local infrastructure, and local non-profits.

During the 2023 Legislative Session, I worked with my colleagues to pass a new two-year state budget that stands up for consumers, including a freeze of scheduled increases on the diesel tax, which helps lower the price of groceries and other commodities while reducing the cost of doing business in Connecticut.

Great news for first-time homeowners! An additional $20 million has been added to the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority's (CHFA) Time To Own Program that offers down payment assistance to low and moderate-income homebuyers in Connecticut.
