Exciting news for New Britain! Last week, I joined Mayor Bobby Sanchez, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, and Governor Lamont to announce a $14.7 million federal USDOT Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant for New Britain.
This grant will be used to help support improvements at the intersection of Route 174 and East Street, which will enhance safety, reduce congestion, improve pedestrian and bicycle access, and strengthen connectivity to the CTfastrack East Main Street Station.
The Route 174 and East Main Street intersection is one of the busiest intersections in the city, with thousands of travelers every day. These improvements will transform the current offset intersection into a traditional four-way signalized intersection to reduce vehicle conflicts and improve traffic operations. The project also includes new sidewalks, modernized traffic signals, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and other enhancements to create a safer gateway into downtown New Britain.
Construction for this project is expected to begin in 2029 and be completed by 2031, and will be administered by the City of New Britain with support from CTDOT.
I want to thank Mayor Sanchez, the New Britain leaders, my fellow state delegation members, our congressional delegation, and Governor Lamont for their collaboration to ensure New Britain received this critical funding to improve such a major intersection in our city. This project represents what we are able to accomplish when we work together to make a difference in the lives of New Britain residents. |
