The Bottle Bill

November 20, 2023

In Connecticut, the Bottle Bill is a program that charges retailers a deposit fee on eligible containers like bottles of soda, which is then passed on to customers. When customers return their empty containers to a redemption center, they are reimbursed the deposit, and the center receives a handling fee from the beverage wholesaler. The aim of the Bottle Bill is to encourage people to recycle their used bottles and cans.

Starting from January 1, 2024, bottles and cans will now have a 10-cent deposit included in the price. This means that when you return a bottle or can, you will receive a ten-cent refund instead of five-cents. To learn more, please read this article.
