Dear Neighbor,

I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Labor Day Weekend! Law enforcement is reminding drivers to make safety a priority by not getting behind the wheel while impaired. You can expect to see an increased police presence across the state. If your plans include drinking, plan for a sober ride home.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation encourages these safe alternatives:

  • Designate a sober driver. Even one alcoholic beverage can impair your ability to drive; don’t take the risk
  • Use a taxi, a rideshare program, or public transportation. Plan by downloading apps and checking local transit schedules
  • Be a good friend. If someone is about to drive impaired, take their keys and help them find a safe way home. They might be upset in the moment, but they’ll thank you later
  • Report impaired drivers. If you see someone driving erratically, slow down, keep your distance, and call 911 when it’s safe to do so

Join Sierra Club Connecticut and me for a community walk at Farrington Woods in Danbury on Sunday, September 27. We’ll take a short, accessible walk (about 1 mile), explore the local ecology, discuss important environmental issues and legislation, and pick up trash along the way to help keep the preserve clean.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced that bridge joint work will be performed on I-84 East and West in Danbury on the following bridges listed below:

  • I-84 over Housatonic Railroad near Still River
  • I-84 over Milestone Road
  • I-84 over Saw Mill Road

The location of this work is the bridges from Exit 3 to the New York State Line both East and West. This project is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 2 and completed on Friday, October 10. This project ensures the bridges remain in a state of good repair.

There will be lane closures during the duration of the project. Traffic control signing patterns will be in place with State Police to guide motorists through the work zone. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.

Sincerely,

Ken Gucker
State Representative
