OEC Announces Michelle Cook as Agency Ombudsman

My former colleague representing the Northwest Corner in the legislature got a new job this week, when Office of Early Childhood (OEC) Commissioner Bye announced Michelle Cook's appointment as OEC's first Ombudsman. This position is designed to give families and programs another way to raise concerns - or point out strengths – of OEC services.

Michelle Cook will be the first Ombudsman for the agency. Michelle has extensive experience with constituent service, having served as a State Representative for 16 years.  She has also worked in early childhood education. She will be meeting with OEC team members and going out in the field to make folks aware of the position and provide contact information as well.

The system can be challenging for families and programs to navigate, and in her role as Ombudsman Michelle will provide a valuable resource.

Personally, I'm glad that I will get to continue working with this accomplished woman in the Capitol!

Aspiring Educators Scholarship Program

The Aspiring Educators Scholarship Program, established by the Connecticut General Assembly and administered by the CT State Department of Education (CSDE), is now open and accepting applications!

This scholarship supports students who:

  • Graduated from a public high school in an Alliance District
  • Are enrolled—or will soon enroll—in a teacher preparation program at a four-year college or university

Up to $10,000 per year is available for eligible students, including:

  •  High school seniors planning to begin a teacher prep program this fall
  • Undergraduate or graduate students already enrolled in an approved program

Don’t miss this opportunity to get financial support as you prepare to inspire the next generation of learners!
