Dear Neighbor,
The old Court House on Main Street has been one of my favorite buildings my entire life. My mother told me that as a toddler I called it a birthday cake. I'm happy to have joined my colleagues State Representative Farley Santos, State Representative Ken Gucker, and Senator Julie Kushner in championing the conveyance of the historic building to the City of Danbury at administrative costs only (House Bill 7280, currently awaiting the Governor's expected signature).
The building is in bad shape and needs significant repairs to make it safe and habitable. The Danbury delegation is working on that funding. Happily, today Governor Lamont has included in his remediation package a $200,000 grant to the city for the environmental assessment of the Courthouse. This early assessment will enable future reuse of the building as municipal office space in the historic district.
Governor Lamont has also included a grant of $200,000 to the city for assessment activities at 13 Barnum Court, which was formerly used for hat manufacturing. The assessment work will help identify potential end uses and developers to cleanup and reuse the site. |
