Dear Neighbor,

As of today, we less than two weeks left until the end of session. Each day, we continue to debate legislation and some bills have been approved by the House and are headed to the Senate for passage.

This week, we passed workers’ compensation legislation that, had we not acted, would have resulted in a potential 265% increase in workers’ compensation benefits, which would have cost Connecticut businesses millions of dollars. We also approved legislation to cover the Medicaid shortfall that occurred in the current budget. Like many other expenses we are required to pay, covering the cost of this shortfall is critical to future budgets.

As always, if there is anything I can help you with or any questions you may have about upcoming legislation, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at gregg.haddad@cga.ct.gov.

Medical Debt Relief

Medical debt relief is coming to more than 100,000 Connecticut residents.

I’m proud to share that the second round of medical debt relief is on the way  — funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and made possible through our partnership with the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt.

What to expect
Keep an eye out for an official letter from Undue Medical Deb. THIS IS NOT JUNK MAIL! There is no application process, no catch, just relief.

Who qualifies?

  • Individuals earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level
  • Those whose medical debt equals 5% or more of annual income

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to health equity, financial relief, and a more compassionate healthcare system for all Connecticut residents. View a sample of what this letter looks like at https://shorturl.at/6XUQs.
