We are at the beginning of a new era for health care in our region with the launch of UConn Health Waterbury Hospital. Earlier this month, the community celebrated the new partnership which brings long-needed stability, new resources, job security, and long-term access to care for families across Waterbury and the surrounding communities.
As your state representative, I was proud to play a crucial role in passing legislation that paved the way for UConn Health to acquire and save Waterbury Hospital. This agreement ensures the hospital remains open and operational, restores confidence for patients and staff, and protects hundreds of local health care jobs.

Because UConn Health is Connecticut’s only public academic health system, this partnership also means that patients in our region will have stronger connections to specialists, cutting-edge research, and advanced treatments. Some of the expected benefits include:
- Greater access to UConn Health specialists and clinical expertise
- Integration with teaching and research programs
- Expanded opportunities for physician training and education
|
|
| Additionally, joining the UConn Health network will strengthen our hospital while preserving its local identity. For residents, this means more care available close to home, fewer trips to hospitals outside the region, and stronger health care infrastructure serving Waterbury and the greater Naugatuck Valley. |

| This partnership represents what is possible when we put people before profits and invest in the well-being of our communities. It ensures that Waterbury Hospital will continue serving patients and families for generations to come. |
