Dear Neighbor,

This week, I joined fellow legislators for a tour of the Connecticut Veterans Affairs Campus in Rocky Hill, hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs. We met with Commissioner Ron Welch and his staff, who reported on their recent accomplishments and outlined their current priorities. The tour included an in-depth look at upgrades to the campus power plant, as well as visits to the residential facilities, dining services, outpatient clinic, and long-term care facility.

I was truly impressed by what I saw on the campus — from the professionalism and dedication of the staff to the high level of services, supports, and benefits being provided to Connecticut’s Veterans.

During the visit, I also had the opportunity to share the Southington Veterans Committee’s proposal to expand dental coverage for Veterans and continued advocating for this important legislative priority with my colleagues. Ensuring our veterans have access to comprehensive care remains a top priority, and I will continue working to advance policies that honor their service and support their well-being.

Please continue reading below for other noteworthy items, and thanks as always for taking the time to read them!

Health Care Plans

Several residents have reached out with concerns about the affordability of health coverage following federal cuts that took effect on January 1. I want to reassure you that Connecticut has stepped in to protect residents from major premium increases and coverage disruptions.

Due to high demand, Access Health CT has extended its enrollment deadline to January 31. Finding the right health insurance can feel overwhelming, but Access Health CT offers one-on-one assistance to help you understand your options. Residents can visit the website here or call the help center (1-855-805-4325) to get personalized support and have questions answered.

To further stabilize coverage, Governor Ned Lamont is using a bipartisan emergency fund to replace lost federal subsidies and keep coverage affordable. This includes restoring enhanced premium tax credits for Covered CT enrollees and offsetting lost subsidies for individuals earning up to 500% of the Federal Poverty Level through 2026.

Access Health CT is working with state agencies and insurers to implement these changes. Eligible residents will be notified directly, and premium adjustments will be made automatically once the program is finalized.

While federal cuts have created uncertainty, Connecticut’s response is focused on stability, affordability, and continued access to care. Residents are encouraged to review their options through Access Health CT, where help is available.
