Beware of an Eversource Robocall Scam

January 24, 2020

A fellow state representative received a voice mail message I wanted to share and warn IS A SCAM! My colleague called the number for verification and was surprised how professional they seemed on the phone. He was almost ready to offer his credit card information when he suspected it did not make sense.

The person said my colleague had 32 minutes to act before electric power would be cut off. My colleague offered to pay in person but the caller immediately hung up.

My colleague then called Eversource and was advised that many people have been affected by this kind of fraud.

Please double check before you turn over personal data and, in all cases, hang up and call the number on your bill.

Below is what the message said, and it perfectly mimicked the Eversource call back number message!

“Good day welcome to Eversource this is an automated call to inform you that your account reflects a disconnection order taking place today due to nonpayment history. Press two to be transferred to our billing department ___ please contact us at 203-947-5235 to avoid the disconnection sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause and thank you for choosing ever source…”
