Village Heights Family Self Sufficiency Graduation

December 6, 2019

I was pleased to join the Caleb Group and Compass Working Capital to celebrate 20 people and their families who completed the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's 5-year Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) program. A ceremony and dinner was held Thursday, Dec. 5 at Eastern Connecticut State University.

The Caleb Group is the first private affordable housing provider to make the FSS program available to residents, and first introduced the program to Village Heights in 2014.

The FSS program teaches participants how they can increase their economic stability and achieve goals like home ownership. Participation in the program allows graduates to access financial coaching and to escrow rent increases as their income increases.
